Volunteer

By becoming an Our World Today volunteer you will be given the opportunity to contribute to our organisation through a range of unique and exciting experiences.

Apply to become a volunteer by downloading and filling out our PDF application form (you can fill this out on screen and save it , then email it to us).

Activities you may like to volunteer for include:

Marketing – In the lead up to, and first year after our launch we will require a large army of marketing volunteers to help us get our website and idea out there.

Our World Today believes in people power, and as such the value of face to face marketing. This, coupled with our want to give society a voice in the news they see, are the reasons behind one of our most unique and exciting marketing initiatives.

We plan to send small groups of volunteers to various festivals and events across South Australia, and eventually Australia. Volunteers will be tasked with manning our promotional stall, which includes talking to people about what we’re doing and seeking out story ideas.

Volunteers who wish to get involved in this exciting opportunity will need to attend a short two hour workshop on ‘Marketing for Our World Today’. This would cover an introduction to who we are and details of what we are trying to achieve by sending volunteers to these events. The workshop will ensure you are confident in talking to the public about our organisation.

This is a great opportunity to meet people, visit new places (for free), make friends with fellow volunteers and gain experience in sales and marketing.

Newsroom assistant – the heart of our organisation is of course our newsroom, and running an efficient, well organised newsroom is critical to our success.

The role of the newsroom assistant/s would be to help the Chief of Staff and journalists with their day to day task of producing news for the website. This may include:

  • helping with research for stories
  • organising interviews/photos
  • taking phone calls
  • backing up video files
  • other tasks that will aid in the general running of the newsroom.

This is a great opportunity to meet interesting people, make friends with fellow volunteers and staff and gain experience in becoming a journalist.

Writing – if you have a passion for journalism, writing or telling stories, you may be able to join our band of writers in providing unique and inspiring stories to the world. I you would like to become a volunteer writer for us, you will need to submit your regular or one off column idea or story to stories@ourworldtoday.com.au

Volunteer writers will be given the opportunity of utilising our newsroom and equipment if they wish. Alternatively you may write your story from home/work and submit it via email.

This is a great opportunity to share your passion, knowledge and creativity with the world, make friends with fellow volunteers and staff and gain experience in writing and journalism.

Note: All volunteers will need to undergo a Federal police check.

Rajvi Kotecha 26/3/12 - Yesterday I watched a truly heart warming an inspirational video that perfectly demonstrates the positive power of social media to spread messages of love, hope and solidarity. You can watch it here: http://youtu.be/mYjuUoEivbE Enabling borders, power, religion and time to merge into a common humanity, this is a good example of the interweb fulfilling it's dharma.

Augustus Tanton 14/3/12 - Do not let your ego get too close to your role, so that should your position gets shot down, your ego doesn't go with it. Because something doesn't do that which you planned it to accomplish doesn't suggest it's useless.
