Our Difference

  • We will always be a free service, unlike many other news websites that are looking to charge users.
  • We hope to inspire every reader by sharing the positive side of humanity through interesting and professional journalism.
  • We will inject a contagious shot of happiness into each and every viewer, by providing a unique, interactive forum for people to share their stories of achievement and hope. A major source of interaction will be a ‘communal’ message board, which will allow people to post and read positive stories about their own as well as others' daily experiences. In a world where it can be difficult to find inspiration, happiness and something to make you smile, we will stand out and stand tall, ensuring people keep coming back for more.
  • We will bring back the 'raw' style of news-gathering. Our team is not about copying a media release or just taking a phone call. We will take to the streets and speak to the community one-on-one to allow for that human connection in story telling and promote a true sense of community.
  • By focusing on positive news stories we will gain greater respect and access to the most interesting news talent, celebrities and politicians. Nearly all news organisations face a difficult task uncovering the most interesting good news stories, because those people and organisations involved believe journalists will put a negative spin on their announcement, and as such they often choose not to publicise their news. There is also a widespread philosophy amongst most government and business media advisors that no news is good news, and it’s not hard to understand why, with only around 15% of news being positive/optimistic (Noyes, 2005). We will break down this barrier and benefit from delivering the scoops others can’t.
  • We will listen to what sort of news people want, including following the results of our survey, which found more than 61% of people said they felt news was too negative and 78% labelled mainstream news as bias. When asked ‘what type of news would you like to see presented more in the news’ 23% said ‘positive/good’ news, 22% said more ‘accurate/in-depth/ hard/ investigative’ news, while 18.5% said ‘human interest/unsung hero’ stories and 13.5% said ‘achievement and discovery’. We will take advantage of society’s want for more open, balanced and positive news by introducing Australia’s first news source that will focus on reporting more in depth and positive news stories.
  • We will take advantage of the fact that media outlets are now employing fewer journalists than ever, but are not reducing the time of their news bulletins or length of their newspapers. This is forcing those journalists who are left to cover quick, shallow, headline grabbing stories that can be finished by deadline. Due to being solely online we will not have a ‘deadline’ as such, other than trying to be the first to break a story. This will mean we will not be forced into covering the quickest and easiest stories to cover in 500 words (average length of a newspaper story) or 70 seconds (average time of a TV news story). We will show that some of the most interesting stories in society don’t have a word or time limit and positive headlines can be just as interesting as negative ones.
  • When covering political issues, we will provide viewers with the full, unedited vision, audio and transcript of any press conference/media statement, as well as the usual edited written or video story. By covering political stories in this way, we will ensure it is not seen as bias and will maintain respect and relationships with key government figures. This unique service will be a significant point of difference to other news services and will appeal not only to the 32.2% of people who said they would like to see more in-depth and political stories, but also the 78% of people who feel news is bias.
