Power means different things to different people. It could be physical force, mental strength, the ability to stand up for what you believe in, or even material gains.
Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy is taking the concept of ‘Power’ to a whole new level, starting a t-shirt designing competition to raise money for the charity Invisible Children.
“Maybe it’s not a typical public perception power, or politicians, or power that comes out of your wall. But it is the power that everyone has within them,” said Wentz.
Invisible Children came to life in Pete Wentz’s world after watching a documentary where he learnt that 38,000 kids were kidnapped in Northern Uganda during night and forced to fight as child soldiers.
With this in mind, he took action, collaborating with other members of Fall Out Boy to create a music video for their song “Me and You” shot on location in Uganda, aiming to raise awareness of the issue.
Until February 29, fans will be able to submit ‘Power’ themed t-shirt designs at www.masscanvas.com where all entries will be featured on the website.
Throughout the competition, members of the public can vote for the favourite - out of which a top 20 will be chosen. From that list, on March 22, Pete Wentz will pick the five winning tees, giving $1000 to each designer.
The top five designs will be printed in limited quantity and sold, with all proceeds from sales going to support Invisible Children.
“It can be anything from the power of the kid who just wants to get over being bullied at school, or the power all around the world around the Middle-East,” said Wentz.
“To me, the top design from all the rest is where you can see that the person put their heart into it. You can see that they really believed in the grandeur idea.”
Many entries have already been submitted, ranging from themes of ‘Silence is Powerful’, ‘Love Powers Life’, and ‘The Power To Be Your Own Creator’.
You can submit your entry at www.masscanvas.com
